Item 1441
$5,000

Coin silver Lexington, KY ladle, circa 1790-1805, with the mark of “S. Ayres” on the back, which was used by Samuel Ayres.  18th century Southern silver is extremely rare, and this ladle is a wonderful survivor.  Ayres worked in Lexington, KY from 1786 to 1823 and one year after in Danville, KY.  See Marquis Boultinghouse’s Silversmiths of Kentucky, 1785-1900 for eight pages of information about Ayres.

The ladle measures 8 inches and has an “F” monogram in embellished circle.  There is a very slight bend at the top handle of the ladle but otherwise is in excellent condition.
